Dear Parents,

Welcome back! We hope you and your families had a wonderful summer break and are feeling refreshed as we start the new school year.

A warm welcome to our Year 7 students as they join the Kwun Tong campus community — we are excited to have you with us!

This year, we have made some positive changes to lunchtime arrangements that are already creating more opportunities for our students. The new spacious environment encourages play and relaxation, making lunchtime an enjoyable and refreshing part of the day.

We are also looking forward to launching our Extra Curricular Activities program on 8th September. Please encourage your child to get involved, explore new interests, and develop their skills outside the classroom. More details relating to ECA opportunities and how to sign up will be shared with you via email this week.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025 on an outstanding set of IBDP and IGCSE results! We want to extend a huge thank you to our dedicated academic teams for their unwavering support and to our students for their hard work and commitment.

At NAIS HK, we believe that a strong partnership between school and parents is key to supporting our students’ academic and social growth. Together, we can help each child reach their full potential and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

We would like to congratulate all our IB students on their May 2025 results. Our IB Diploma mean was 35.7 points which is more than 5 points above the Global average of 30.58. We are also proud to report that 31% of students achieved 40+ points, which is an exceptional achievement. Thank you to all Year 13 teachers, the IB Team and parents for their unwavering support of our Year 13 students to achieve these fantastic outcomes.

“Diversity is a fact. Equity is a choice. Inclusion is an action. Belonging is an outcome.” NAIS HK is certainly a place where diversity is celebrated, where all strive to foster a thriving community where everyone belongs and feels at home. I am very excited and proud to join such a prestigious organisation where everyone is valued. Having worked in London as the Head of Learning Support prior to moving here, it is now time for me to continue my learning journey whilst sharing my expertise with staff at the school.

Globetrotting almost 10,000 kilometers to Hong Kong from the UK to join NAISH HK as the Head of Learning Support has been an exhilarating experience. Hong Kong is certainly a very ‘happening’ and vibrant city that has surpassed my expectations! Having met the students, parents and the staff at NAIS HK, I must admit, I feel the same way about them too. I hope that together we can build on the robust measures and strategies that not only help our students to reach their potential but truly act like the wind is beneath their wings for them to soar through their ambition.

Hi! I’m so excited to be here in Hong Kong and at NAIS HK. It has been a whirlwind few weeks moving to this wonderful city, settling into life here and meeting all the wonderful staff and students at this amazing school; I also very much look forward to meeting the parent body in the weeks and months ahead. I join NAIS HK as an experienced and enthusiastic geography teacher, and I also have the privilege of taking on the role as Head of Year 9. Following a stint teaching in the UK, I made the move to Dubai where I taught for four fantastic years. Most recently, I spent three wonderful years at the International British School of Bucharest in Romania! I’m very excited to support the holistic growth and development of the fantastic students at NAIS HK in the year ahead, and into the future.

Moving across the world to such a wonderful place has been challenging and exciting in equal measure. Having taught in a range of fantastic schools in both the UK and Singapore previously, I am delighted to be at NAIS Hong Kong. I always think that people make a place; the people at NAIS have been nothing short of phenomenal so far. From being welcomed into the school so comprehensively by existing staff, to having fantastic interactions with students in my year group and English classes, I’ve felt right at home and I’m incredibly grateful for that. My favourite book is The Life of Pi and I feel that it perfectly summarises my educational philosophy: Just as Pi uses creativity and knowledge from different subjects to survive his challenges, I believe education is about building a flexible toolkit. It’s not just what you learn but learning how to think resourcefully to overcome any obstacle – which is my vision for the brilliant students at this school!

STEAM Updates by our new STEAM Co-Ordinator - Elliott Rees

I’m honored to be stepping into the role of STEAM Coordinator this year at NAIS Hong Kong. Over the past two years, I’ve taught Computer Science here, building on a career that spans multiple international schools and STEM departments. Before retraining as a teacher, I worked as a systems engineer in the aviation industry — a background that continues to shape my passion for applied technology and innovation in education.

STEAM education is deeply valued across the Nord Anglia group, and our school leadership has invested significantly in new resources over the summer. We’re therefore delighted to unveil our newly upgraded school makerspace — a dynamic, hands-on environment that supports both classroom learning and extracurricular exploration. Designed to foster creativity and innovation across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, the space empowers students to explore, design, and build using tools such as 3D printers, robotics kits, coding platforms, and digital fabrication equipment.

This new facility also strengthens our technology curriculum, helping students develop the critical thinking and technical skills they’ll need to thrive in a world where technology evolves rapidly. We’re equally excited to continue our collaboration with MIT through Nord Anglia’s global partnership, which brings lectures, Q&A sessions, and real-world challenges from MIT experts directly into our lessons and enrichment programs.

The World Scholar’s Cup is an international academic event with two rounds of competition leading to the Finals at Yale University, USA, in November. The competition includes the Scholar’s Bowl, the Scholar’s Challenge, the Collaborative Writing and the Team Debate, with all events relating to a cross-disciplinary curriculum.

Over the summer holidays, I was lucky enough to have attended the semi-finals, or as we call “Globals”, of The World Scholar’s Cup. It was an academically enriching experience, but also a really fun challenge given the way the competition was designed.

With 190 teams competing in the Senior Category, I am delighted to share that my team achieved second place in the Collaborative Writing and finished the competition in the top 16. Moreover, we received many more awards, accumulating to a total of 34 medals and 4 trophies.

With such a fantastic result, my team and I will attend the Finals at Yale in November, after which I hope to be able to share more winning news with you all.

Kind regards,

Fiona Thorndike
